Cotham, Harwell & Evans in Alaska.

Mark Cotham addressed the Alaska Legislative and Budget Committee in Juneau, Alaska concerning the rights of Alaska, and the obligations of oil companies to market and develop the Alaska North Slope natural gas reserves.

Cotham, Harwell & Evans in Texas appellate courts.

The Texas Court of Appeals, Ninth District, issued a conditional writ of mandamus, finding that the trial court had abused its discretion in prohibiting discovery directed to a party seeking to hide behind the Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination. Mark Harwell was lead counsel.

The Texas Court of Appeals, Fourteenth District, reversed the grant of a summary judgment against a steel distributor who brought claims based upon negligent misrepresentation and deceptive trade practices against an insurance company. Mark Harwell was lead counsel for the steel distributor.

Mark Cotham spoke and presented a paper on oil and gas development cases at the 29th Ernest E. Smith Oil & Gas Mineral Law Institute in Houston, Texas.

Mark Cotham and Mark Harwell have co-authored a pamphlet entitled Why Oil Companies Don’t Drill Wells They Should and What This Means for Royalty Owners. The pamphlet addresses the complexity of issues that cause oil and gas companies to fail to fulfill their obligations to develop properties.
